Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD or PIGD)

With launching the new Law Regulating Reproductive Medicine, preimplantation diagnosis is now allowed in Austra in certain cases. It is used to determine or exclude genetic disorders of the embryo before transferring it into the uterus.
Preimplantation diagnosis is allowed in the following cases:
  • no pregnancy occurred after three ore more embryo transfers and there is reason to believe that this is caused by genetic disposition of the embryos
  • after three ore more medically certified episodes of spontaneous miscarriage or stillbirth, suspected to be caused by a genetic disposition of the child or
  • when there is a genetic disposition in at least one of the parents, with high risk to cause stillbirth, mirscarriage or a genetic desease in the child.
