Fertility Treatment Options

There are a number of ways to treat fertility problems. All require time and persistence. The main treatment options, which are individualised according to diagnosis, are as follows.

Hormone therapy with medication

• When there is a hormone imbalance
• When egg maturation/ovulation is compromised
• When hormonal testicular function is compromised

Artificial insemination

• Reduced sperm function
• Immune reaction to sperm
• Cervix failure
• No discernable cause of infertility

IVF (In-Vitro Fertilisation)

• Loss of tubal function
• Decreased sperm function
• Endometriosis
• No discernable cause of infertility

Microinjection of sperm into the egg

• (intracytoplasmic sperm injection, ICSI)
• followed by embryo transfer into the uterus
• Reduced sperm function
