The Austrian IVF Fund

On January 1st 2000 the Austrian IVF Fund was established to support couples who have to undergo IVF treatment. When certain requirements are met the Fund coveres 70% of therapy and medication costs for 4 treatment cycles. After a positive treatment result (pregnancy with verifiably positive fetal heartbeat) the IVF Fund grants further supported treatment cycles. A deductible of 30% for treatment costs has to be payed by the couple.

Following requirements have to be met:
  • The couple has to be married or living in a consensual union
  • both partners have to be covered by the Austrian health insurance system or a private (foreign) health insurance
  • both partners have to be Austrian or EU citizens or (in case of non-EU citizens) have a residential permit
  • The age limit for women is 40 (cut-off date is the 40th birthday) and for men 50 years (cut-off date is the 50th birthday)
  • there has to be at least one medical indication for necessary IVF treatment:

  • blocked fallopian tubes or other malfunction of the tubes
  • endometriosis and the resulting functional infertility
  • Polycystic ovaries and the resulting functional infertility

  • severe male infertility or azoospermia
